A Place of

Possibilities

Welcome to Brookhill, a BEYA Nursery School and Children’s Centre. We are located in East Barnet and care for children aged 6 months to 4 years. We are rated outstanding by Ofsted. Our nursery is a living space where children and childhood are honoured, their abilities and ideas valued. A place where children and adults learn from each other. Caron Rudge & Kelly Brooker, Executive Headteachers

#saveournurseries

We need your help! Nursery schools are underfunded and will not continue into the future unless a funding solution is found. We need you to write to your local MP ahead of the government’s autumn spending review, urging them to do all they can to support Nursery Schools in Barnet who are facing a deficit budget this year. Parents voice is very influential. Please take a few minutes to write an email and help save our nurseries.
Thank you.

Tremendous tadpoles and fabulous frogs! The last couple of weeks we have been fascinated by some new friends at nursery. Alberto brought us in some tadpoles from his pond and we have all been learning lots but them. Did you know it takes about a year for a frog to grow?! We’ve also made an encyclopaedia on different life cycles of things around us which we will share more soon.

When was the last time you relaxed in a hammock? Today we’ve spent the afternoon enjoying the hammock. This simple piece of material has taught us so much. We learned how to keep ourselves and our friends safe, and that we need to ask then if they’d like to be rocked quickly or slowly. We discussed the importance of listening to ourselves and expressing how we feel about what we want, as well as listening to each other. We also practiced taking turns, which was really hard, so we made a list with everyone who wanted a turn. We also set a timer for 3 minutes so we all had the same amount of time. Who knew so much learning could come from a simple piece of fabric!

Mini Monets We brought our large scale Monet painting inside to try our hand at replicating them on a smaller scale. Our children observed and studied Monets paintings and used smaller paint brushes to create their paintings. Giving children the the opportunity to use both gross and fine motor skills sparked different interests in different children. Some of our children prefer mark making on a large scale, whilst others enjoy smaller creative activities. By giving children the choice it allows them to express themselves and learn in ways that are best for them.

We’ve been busy making a our own Monet paintings in the garden today! Using large brushes to begin with, we were using our gross motor muscles. We then swapped to smaller brushes to concentrate on our fine motor skills. We will continue to add to our painting along the week.

Last week our eggs arrived and by Thursday we had 8 healthy chicks. The children have enjoyed observing them, drawing pictures of them, holding and caring for them. It can be such a valuable experience for children, especially those who don’t have pets at home. We have also looked closely at the lifecycle of chickens and made some observational drawings. The children have been so caring and kind towards them.

This morning we have been looking at quantity’s. It began with one little boy sorting out the numbers into order and confidently counting them. We then began finding sticks and adding them to the corresponding number. Other children came and went, and at the end enjoyed jumping along the number line together.

Ofsted Outstanding
  • Parents commented that, even the small things, like the issuing of fridge magnets with a picture of their children’s key worker, really helped their children to get ready for their time at the school and to settle in swiftly. Right from day one, there is a friendly face to meet and greet them.

    Ofsted

  • You have a clear vision for the school and are supported by excellent practitioners at every level. You and your team reflect continually on what is best for the children in your care.

    Ofsted

  • Together, you research effective education practice, tailoring it to support the development needs of every child. As a result, all children make substantial gains in their learning. They are very well prepared for primary school.
